Fox-girl work in progress part 3

Image
My fox-girl is starting to come together!  She looks a lot better now that she has her wig on and I'm feeling a lot more pleased with her overall. I couldn't help feeling that she looked a bit weird, in an awkward, not sure if I like it sort of way, but now that she has some hair I feel a lot happier with her. It still amazes me every time how much difference a hair-do can make to a doll and give it personality. :D  So I guess the next part will be the final chapter (so far!) of her journey - she needs a proper outfit! She's currently borrowing Martha Jones from Doctor Who's biker jacket, but I want her to have a kind of futuristic uniform.  Liv doll custom Liv doll custom

Since I spray-painted her face and body, fox-girl needed a face-up - some blushing and painting to bring out her features.  I was aiming for an arctic fox look (like these adorable little fluffballs on the right), hence the creamy-beige base coat, and I just wanted to do some very light shading hinting at some fur using light feathery brushstrokes. I used a combination of artist's chalk pastels, Citadel and Golden Fluid Acrylic and artist's colour pencils. And this is the result! Next I'll be modifying a Liv wig so that she can wear it with her ears poking out...

H ere are some work in progress shots of how my Fox-Girl Mod is progressing. I'm using a Liv Doll as a base to work on top of with Magic Sculp epoxy putty.  Having sanded her head thoroughly I've now sprayed her all over using Montana spray-paint in a creamy ivory colour as a base coat. I protected the eyes by carefully adhering some Blu-tac to them, making sure they were covered right into the corners, but allowing the paint as close a coverage to the edges of the eyes as possible. The spray is not adhering as well as I'd hoped to the plastic of the body, which I'm not overly surprised about, but it has fixed well on the Magic Sculp and on the softer plastic of the head, feet and hands. Since most of her body will be covered up by the outfit I'm going to make for her I'm not overly concerned about the wear of the paint on her body and joints.   It took a few coats of spray to build up thin layers, rather than one thick, goopy one. Once the paint wa

Hey there Foxy Lady! - Custom Doll Mod

Yikes! It's been a long ol' while since I last posted, *but* I do have a pretty good excuse: I got married to my lovely Mr. Man of 11 years in May!! It was hectic, incredible fun and the absolute best time of my life!! =D So since pockets are now a little less jangly with coinage, purchasing of BJDs is on hold for now... But that's ok because it gives me the perfect excuse to focus on other dolly projects including making custom modifications to fashion dolls and handmaking stuff, so without further ado, ta-dah-da-da-daaah: Here's my current work in progress, a Fox-face Liv Doll!   Ignore the weird pinky-grey colour, it won't stay that way once I've painted her, it just happens to be to only colour of Magic Sculp* I have at the moment. She needs more sanding and smoothing down before I can paint her. (* Magic Sculp is a two-part air-drying epoxy putty specifically for modelling. It's not dissimilar to Milliput, but I actually prefer it for bei

Great news! :D I've recently been in contact with Doll Artistry Magazine - which is a new magazine for doll fans of all kinds! It covers artist dolls, BJDs, Reborns... all sorts really - yay! The super-awesome part is: Issue #2 will feature my *new* Boot tutorial for BJDs, with lots of clear pictures and explanations! The method shown is for MSD size (as modelled by the lovely DZ Kimi in my post of 7th March) and it can easily be adapted for other size dolls too. Raven-Witch Outfit Sketches

Image
These are some rough sketches I did last night Outfit designs for a Doll I am planning to make. She comes from a story I am writing, and she is a Raven-Witch, so the ravens theme is a strong one, hence all the feather shapes ;) . I'm still deciding on her name and still have things to finalise in her story beginning but I will post some of the text within the next few days. I've yet to work up colour schemes, details and such, just wanted to get a feel for her character and shapes at this early stage.   So with out further ado, here are the initial rough sketches - it's all just ideas and work in progress at the moment! ;)
